Hello Physical Education Teacher!

We truly appreciate your contribution to improving the health of your students by participating in the Let’s Get Moving (LGM) program. We are the Oklahoma Nutrition Information and Education (ONIE) Project based out of the Hudson College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Since 2013, we have hosted an annual FREE family fun walk/run 5K event on a Sunday afternoon in October at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park in Midwest City. This year we will be hosting the event on Sunday, October 20 with a wellness expo from 1 PM – 3 PM and our 5K beginning at 3 PM. Our purpose is to get families moving together and make physical activity and nutrition a family affair. This event is absolutely FREE to participants, so all families have the opportunity to participate.

Through a collaboration with Mid-Del Schools, we are expanding this initiative so that even more families are impacted. As a teacher you will have the opportunity to help encourage your students to begin the training process for the Let’s Get Moving 5K by implementing the 6-week LGM curriculum. We will supplement this with weekly fliers sent to families through Peachjar and/or other ideas you may have to help recruit family participation. Once a family has registered to participate in the event they will be enrolled in a texting program to reinforce the weekly priorities from the lesson plans and provide necessary logistics for the event. All the supplemental materials for LGM have been developed to encourage healthy living and we hope participating families will find enjoyable ways to be active together. We look forward to working with you and showing  Mid-Del families that their schools support them in making healthy choices!
