MAKING THE HEALTHY CHOICE THE EASY CHOICE
Important Project Update
Beginning October 1, 2025, the ONIE Project will no longer offer programming and services previously funded by the Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grant, otherwise known as SNAP-Ed. The federal budget reconciliation bill (H.R. 1, or the “Big Beautiful Bill Act”) eliminated this funding in July 2025.
ONIE programming affected by this loss of funding includes Choose Homemade, MyPlate, Tasty Text, Let’s Get Moving, and the Oklahoma’s Farmers Markets and Local Food Access initiative.
For more than 20 years, ONIE has received SNAP-Ed funding to make healthy living doable for Oklahoma families. Together with communities across the state, this programming shared how simple, affordable, and delicious healthy food can be. We shared recipes that fit busy schedules, showed families how to stretch their grocery dollars, and supported farmers markets that brought fresh, local produce to local communities.
Choosehomemade.org will remain accessible indefinitely so that Oklahoma families, and those who have come to enjoy and rely on our recipes, can continue to use them.
ONIE is continuing to serve its mission of promoting healthy living for all Oklahomans through innovative and creative strategies. We encourage our partners and community to keep visiting onieproject.org and following us on social media to stay connected and see how we’re active across the state.
Thank you to the families, schools, farmers, and community partners who joined us in this work. Your partnership made our efforts stronger and helped create lasting change in kitchens and communities across Oklahoma.

Choose Homemade is dedicated to promoting healthier lifestyles and empowering SNAP-Ed eligible individuals and families in Oklahoma to access and prepare nutritious meals. Choose Homemade seeks to make an impact through seasonal social marketing campaigns, community outreach efforts like cooking demonstrations, recipe videos, and printed materials such as recipe booklets and the annual Choose Homemade Nutrition calendar.
All of these materials point Oklahomans to an online library that contains hundreds of simple, healthy, and homemade recipes at choosehomemade.org.
Ultimately, Choose Homemade is about making the healthy choice the easy choice.

Evidence-Based
Choose Homemade leverages evidence-based interventions to inspire people to cook more meals at home, promoting healthier eating habits. Grounded in extensive research, Choose Homemade examines the barriers to home cooking for SNAP-Ed-eligible populations and provides practical resources to overcome them. By applying behavioral change models, the initiative develops resources and materials with easy-to-follow recipes, meal planning tips, and budgeting advice. Continuous feedback and outcome measurement ensure the effectiveness of these resources.
Choose Homemade also partners with community organizations for workshops and events, and advocates for policies supporting nutrition education and access to fresh ingredients. This comprehensive approach helps individuals enjoy the health benefits of homemade meals and fosters a lasting change towards healthier lifestyles.
