LGM Midwest City 2025 Statement
2025 Event Cancelled
Dear Midwest City Movers,
Due to recent federal action, the ONIE Project will no longer receive Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grant funding as of October 1, 2025. As part of the federal budget reconciliation bill (H.R. 1, the “Big Beautiful Bill Act”), funding for the SNAP-Education program which has been eliminated nationwide.
Let’s Get Moving has been an integral part of our SNAP-Ed programming since 2013. As a result of this funding loss, we will not have the resources to host this year’s Let’s Get Moving event and associated programming.
This is an unfortunate and abrupt change. We are actively pursuing alternative funding opportunities in the hope of bringing Let’s Get Moving back to Midwest City in the future.
We are incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm you’ve shown over the years. We hope our efforts have made a lasting impact—and that you and your family will continue to enjoy being active together and connecting with your community.
Most of all, we hope you’ll keep moving.
With appreciation,
The ONIE Project Team.
LET’S GET MIDWEST CITY MOVING
The Let’s Get Midwest City Moving 5K Walk/Run is a free family fun, non competitive 5K that has been a staple event in the community since 2013. Every October families from every corner of the Midwest City community come together for a walk, run, bike, or skip at Joe B. Barnes Park. This family friendly 5K is free to all participants and is a great way to get moving with your family, friends, and community!
ONIE’s formative research revealed that Oklahoma families wanted more family-time and lacked the confidence to exercise. Using this research, ONIE developed Let’s Get Moving, a fun-filled family event that gets sedentary families moving. The program evaluation evidences that this event attracts & sustains participation in physical activity among low-income, sedentary families.
This yearly event gathers over 1,000 people and reaches more than 6,000 unique individuals of all ages. All registered participants get weekly text messages with healthy living tips, ways to stay active, and delicious recipes to enjoy with the family.

LET’S GET LAWTON MOVING
In 2024 the project completed its second annual Let’s Get Lawton Moving event. ONIE partnered with the Lawton Farmers Market to hold the 5K in conjunction with the market’s 13th Annual Tomato Festival. Lawton Movers spent the day participating in several different activities including Zumba and yoga in the park, salsa judging, and ugliest tomato judging, in addition to the race.
