How to Use Medicaid Transport Services
If you struggle finding transportation to your local farmers market, you are not alone. Many people enrolled in the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) say that they are unable to use their $50 EBT debit card because of this reason.
Here is the good news: if you are on Medicaid, you can use your insurance non-medical transportation benefits to give you a ride to the farmers market.
How does Medicaid Transport Services Work?
Medicaid recently switched the majority of their enrollees from SoonerCare to SoonerSelect. SoonerSelect includes dozens of value-added benefits, and one of these benefits is non-medical transportation services.
Through these benefits, you can get a ride to the farmers market to use your $50 Senior Farmers Market EBT card – or just to shop around!
Keep these tips in mind as you schedule your transportation:
- If this is your first time scheduling non-medical transportation, you will need to book over the phone. After your first ride is scheduled, you will be able to book future appointments online or on the app.
- Schedule your appointment at least 3 business days in advance.
- To request a ride, you must provide the member name, ID number, date of birth, level of service, pick up and drop off addresses, and appointment date/time.
How do I schedule my transportation?
The Medicaid transportation service uses a program called ‘SoonerRide’, through the company Modivcare. There are three different ways to schedule your transportation:
1. Call Modivcare directly
- Make sure you know which SoonerSelect insurance plan you have. If you aren’t sure, call the SoonerCare Helpline at 1-800-987-7767.
- After you know which insurance you have, call the Modivcare extension for your insurance (listed below).
- Tell the operator that you are using your nonmedical transportation benefits to go to the farmers market.
