We know it can be hard to find the motivation to get out and do something in the winter, especially as a family. Check out part 6 of our blog series about free family-friendly fun events happening this week in Oklahoma to kickstart your year with lots of family fun!

Every Friday for the month of January, ONIE will be highlighting different family fun events in all regions of the state! Find something nearby or take the long way and make a road trip out of it! 

Free Family Fun Events: February 10th-16th

Central Oklahoma

Feb. 11th: See You Saturdays 

Location: Oklahoma Hall of Fame

Time: 9:00 am-10:00 am

Age Group: All ages

Event Type: Arts/Crafts/Games

Enjoy free family fun at the museum. Create a craft in their Makerspace, play games, explore exhibits, get your selfie in “Picture Yourself” and see new art and history exhibits. During the first hour, guests can take part in a sensory-friendly experience from 9-10 a.m. Lights will be lowered and music will be played softly. Plus, check out their Sensory Wall and Calming Room.

Feb. 11th : Second Saturday at Oklahoma Contemporary

Location: Oklahoma Contemporary Art Museum

Time: 1:00 pm-4:00 pm 

Age Group: All ages

Event Type: Arts/Crafts

Enjoy an afternoon of artmaking with us! During our regular Second Saturdays, visitors will have the opportunity to create a take-home art project inspired by our exhibitions, join a family-friendly tour of our gallery and explore an Art Pack full of engaging activities for all ages. All Second Saturday activities are free and open to the public.

Northeast Oklahoma

Jan. 16th: G.R.O.W. Mobile Library (Gather and Read on Wheels)

Event Type: Reading/Fine arts

Gather and read with GROW (Gather and Read on Wheels) Mobile Library in partnership with Tulsa City-County Library! The GROW Mobile Library gives Gathering Place guests the opportunity to browse through hundreds of books and read together in the Park, or use their TCCL cards to check out books and take them home to read. Be on the lookout for the GROW Mobile Library near Williams Lodge every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Feb. 11th : Paws For Reading

Location: Nathan Hale Library 

Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm

Age Group: Elementary Aged Children

Event Type: Reading/Fine Arts

Registered therapy dogs are excellent listeners. Elementary schoolers are invited to read their favorite books to a furry, four-pawed friend. Each reader will receive a free book provided by the Raymond and Bessie Kravis Foundation through the Tulsa Library Trust. Registration is required. Southeast Oklahoma

Feb, 14th: Yoga at the Library

Come enjoy some evening yoga for all ages as part of the Oklahoma department of Libraries health literacy grant program. 

Tuesday-Saturday: Fort Washita

Location: 3348 State Road 199 Durant, Oklahoma 74701

Time: 9:00am-4:30pm

Event Type: Historic, Interactive 

Visitors to Fort Washita can tour restored structures, witness Civil War reenactments and take part in the yearly Fur Trade Era Rendezvous to experience what life was like before and during the Civil War. Other events throughout the year include storytelling, outdoor movies and special seasonal and holiday events that the whole family can enjoy.

Western Oklahoma

Feb. 14th: Reading Ranger Storytime

Join us for our monthly Reading Ranger story time! This program is a free story time and craft led by a local park ranger from the Washita National Battlefield.

Feb. 16th: Tweens Paint Class

Location: Meeting Room, Cordell Public Library208 S. College, Cordell, OK, 73632

Time: 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm

Age Group: 9-17

Event Type: Arts/Crafts

Young people between the ages of 9 and 17 are invited to an informal paint class.  We will be using acrylic paints to create simple artwork. All supplies will be provided, with step by step instruction.  You must register in order to attend.  You can register on-line from wplibs.com Events page, or call the library at 580-832-3530. Registration for this event opens Monday, January 30 9:00 AM and there are 12 places to fill.
