Free Oklahoma Family Fun Events This Week: Part 5
Winter means cold days with less daylight. It can be hard to find the motivation to get out and do something, especially as a family. Luckily, there are plenty of Oklahoma family fun events happening all throughout January to get your new year started right!
Every Friday for the month of January, ONIE will be highlighting different family fun events in all regions of the state! Find something nearby or take the long way and make a road trip out of it!
Free Family Fun Events: February 3rd – 9th
Central Oklahoma
Feb, 3rd: First Friday Gallery Walk
Location: Paseo District
Time: 6:00pm -9:00pm

Enjoy a night stroll with the arts at the historic Paseo Arts District with the First Friday Gallery Walk. Over 80 artistes and more than 25 businesses and galleries participate all within walking distance. Restaurants will also be open for dining, patio seating and takeout.
Feb, 4th: Bald Eagle Watch
Location: Chickasaw National Recreation Area

Come spend a morning in nature with the Bald Eagle watch! The Eagle Watch begins at the Travertine Nature Center with a ranger program about eagles, then travels down to the Lake of the Arbuckles to look for eagles. Bring binoculars if you have them. Rangers will have spotting scopes set up throughout the morning. Look at the forecast and dress for the weather.
Northeastern Oklahoma
Feb, 4th: First Friday Art Walk
Location: Tulsa Arts District

The Tulsa Arts District First Friday Art Crawl features galleries, studios and museums as well as part-time galleries in various shops opening their doors to show art. Established museums and galleries offer free or reduced admission and many shops stay open late. Visitors can expect visual art, performances and maybe a few fireworks! Each venue offers something different and creative.
Feb, 4th: National Take Your Child to the Library Day: Kids Read Free Book Fair
Location: Nathan Hale Library – 6038 E 23rd ST, Tulsa, OK

Feb. 4th: Fly In Breakfast
Location: Ponca City Regional Airport
Time: 7:00am-10:00am

The first Saturday of every month airplanes will be lined up to view for free at the Ponca City Regional Airport with an optional breakfast that is $4 for children and $8 for adults! (cash only)
Southeast Oklahoma

A surprising gem of southeast Oklahoma, the Museum of the Red River in Idabel not only offers visitors free admission, but also an up-close-and-personal view of the museum’s reconstructed Acrocanthosaurus atokensis dinosaur, excavated only 12 miles from the museum. Escape the winter cold on a trip through the scenic southeast region by heading indoors for archaeological collections, American Indian artifacts and ethnographic art at this fascinating museum

Back in 1959, the cemetery on the grounds of the Atoka Museum was declared the state’s first official Civil War Confederate cemetery – and today, you can visit it on your next family day out in Oklahoma, for a chance to really immerse yourselves in the rich history of the region.
Today, you can explore the cemetery, the museum, and a Visitor Center, bringing to life a piece of Oklahoma’s history which dramatically altered the course of its future.
Throughout the museum you have a unique look into the varied history of southeastern Oklahoma, from prehistoric bones, the Choctaw Trail of Tears and a stop on the Butterfield Stage Line, to homegrown talents like Reba McEntire, and the late legendary bull rider Lane Frost! The exhibits feature actual historic artifacts, as well as re-created displays of what life would have been like during certain moments in history.
Western Oklahoma
Feb. 3rd-4th: Kiwanis Karnival

Enjoy two days of family fun at the Kiwanis Karnival in Elk City. For two evenings each winter, the Elk City Convention Center turns into a comfortable indoor carnival full of games. Children can test their skills at a wide variety of booths including ring toss, skeeball and basketball. Food concessions will also be available.
Feb. 4th: First Saturday of the Month Kids Arts & Crafts Workshop
Location: Lawton Fort Sill Art Council

This month we will be making Tissue Paper Stained Glass Hearts. They are fun to make and will brighten up your window even on a gloomy winter day. This event is all ages and free to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. Please do not park across the street.
Feb. 5th: How-To Festival
Location: Lawton Farmers Market- 77 SW 4th St., Lawton, OK

Come and learn something new! Lawton area clubs, organizations, and businesses will gather to show off their skills with simple “how-to” demonstrations.
