Activities For Kids

It’s spooky season! With the falling leaves and chill in the air we know Halloween is almost here. The holiday is a great way to get the kids out and active because it is full of creatures and characters to ignite their imaginations. ONIE brings you 5 activities to get in the spirit and get everyone outside.

Monster tag

You will need a blindfold or mask & 6-10 players (this is a game relying on sound & touch). Mark boundaries for a designated tag space. Players will need to stay within this space. Pick a monster to begin the game. Blindfold the monster, place them in the middle of the play space, & have them turn around 3 times. When the monster growls or howls the other players must reply back. When the monster tags a player that player becomes the next monster.

Weave a spider web

You will need sticks, yarn, & anyone who wants to help. Have the kids collect sticks in the yard, a park, or on a walk. With those sticks & the yarn they can weave a web in the corner of the house, outside, or wherever their spooky spider lair will be!

Mummy race

You will need 2 rolls of toilet paper & 8-12 kids. Split into 2 teams. Each team gets a roll of toilet paper. Have the teams designate a mummy. The mummy holds the end of the toilet paper & on the word GO the first team member wraps the mummy for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds they pass the roll to the next player to keep wrapping the mummy. Each player gets 15 seconds. They keep rotating until the toilet paper runs out. The first team whose roll runs out WINS!

Fish for monsters

You will need ½ an apple & string for each player. We’ll use apples for bait! Cut the apple in ½ and cut or scoop out the core. Make a notch at the top and bottom of the apple and tie the string around the apple securing it in these notches. Hang the apples from tree branches hanging low enough that the kids (or adults!) can reach it with their mouths. Have the kids stand in front of their apple with their hands behind their backs. At the word GO each kid will race to see who can eat their apple off the string. First apple gone or to fall off the string WINS! (Tip: You can prepare the apples in advance and hold them in water with lemon juice so they don’t turn brown.)

Monster mash-up

You’ll need sidewalk chalk and 2-8 kids. For the artists in the family, this activity is all about group art. Draw a monster together. Decide who will go first. They will draw the body, then take turns drawing the arms, legs, feet, hands, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. The zanier the better, there are no limits on what this creature can be.
