Backyard & Small Flock Poultry Basics

Increased food awareness & augmented appeal of urban farming has contributed to the recent boost in popularity of small flock poultry & egg production. Raising poultry can be a fantastic way to bring food awareness to families & provide kids a simple lesson in responsibility. Learn tips on successful poultry rearing & gain insight on selling eggs according to the Oklahoma Egg Law.
About speaker:
Dana Zook grew up on a family farm in South Central Nebraska where they raised beef cattle and hogs, grew corn, beans and alfalfa and owned a greenhouse and landscaping business called the Petal Patch. Dana received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska and followed with a Master’s degree in Ruminant Nutrition from Oklahoma State University. Dana has worked in livestock nutrition consulting her entire career and is now an Extension Livestock Specialist based out of Enid, OK. She deals mostly with beef cattle but started doing poultry programming 3 years ago and sh has enjoyed the fun change of pace the backyard poultry subject entails. In her free time, she enjoys reading, gardening, and quilting. Dana and her husband Russell currently reside in Kingfisher, OK with their daughter Norah and son Holt.
