ABOUT

The Western Oklahoma Wellness (WOW) Program strives to connect the Western Oklahoma community, primarily the counties Greer, Kiowa, Beckham, Rogers Mills and Washita, to health and wellness services and resources to empower knowledge and encourage an overall well-being throughout the community. This project is in partnership with the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and many other rural health supporters in Western Oklahoma.

Coinciding with the clinical efforts to increase preventative health care services, WOW will work to improve community connectivity and establish sustainable programming through the implementation of WOWWeeks of Wellness events for each priority county. WOWWeeks of Wellness are tailored events to promote the use of established healthy living resources and highlight activities throughout  each community. The events feature new or established health-related resources such as community parks, food pantries, non-profit organizations, mental health services, farmers markets, physical activity programming, cooking demonstrations, and other community-specific resources. To be highlighted, the resource must be available at little to no cost, be accessible beyond the Week of Wellness event, and if nutrition related, follow the USDA 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines of America.

The Week of Wellness is marketed to community members, including healthcare providers and patients. Marketing efforts include a social media bundle of messaging and graphics promoting each Week of Wellness for both community stakeholders as well as health care providers social media and digital advertising efforts. Additionally, fliers, posters, or other print materials promoting the Week of Wellness are printed and distributed throughout the community by health-enhancing stakeholders organizations and healthcare providers.
