From Farm to Campus: How OU’s Wellness Box Makes Healthy Eating Easy
Picture this: you’ve just wrapped up a long day of work, and instead of rushing to the grocery store, you swing by campus to pick up a box of colorful, just-picked fresh produce. Without any hassle, you can enjoy fresh produce grown right here in Oklahoma.

That’s the idea behind the Local Food for Wellness Program, a partnership between LiveWell OU, ONIE, and the OKC Food Hub. It’s not only a way to simplify healthy eating but also a way to give back to the farmers who grow our food.
Why This Box Is More Than Just Groceries
Healthy eating often slips down the priority list when life gets busy. This program makes it easier by bringing farm-fresh produce directly to OU campuses. Every other week, boxes are ready for pickup, filled with seasonal fruits and vegetables harvested from local farms. Each box supports Oklahoma’s food system, giving you fresher flavors while strengthening the farmers who grow them. It is food that nourishes you while building a stronger community, and the variety inside each box might surprise you.
What You’ll Find Inside Your Box

Produce boxes will be available every other week from mid-April or early May through late October or early November, with designated pickup locations on the Norman and OU-Tulsa campuses. Participants sign up in advance for the full season and simply pay for each box upon delivery.
What’s inside your box depends on the season, but here’s a taste of what you might find:
- Small share ($35): leafy greens, kale or collards, green onions, radishes, tomatoes, root veggies like carrots or beets, fresh basil, and a pint of strawberries.
- Large share ($50): everything in the small box, plus extras like blackberries, cauliflower, or broccoli.
This season also brings some thoughtful add-ons. You can choose a country loaf, a French baguette, or a bunch of fresh cut flowers to go along with your produce. These touches make pickup day feel like something to look forward to, whether it is bread to enjoy with dinner or flowers to brighten your table.
Each box also comes with recipe cards full of simple seasonal ideas, and participants receive a reusable insulated tote while supplies last. If you are traveling, you can place your order on hold up to two times without missing out. At pickup, you can even swap items so nothing goes to waste. The farm names that provide your produce will be posted at each pickup so you will know exactly where your food is coming from.
